The honest answer? Not everyone does. If you’re having a really intimate wedding with a small guest count and a laid-back timeline, one photographer is usually plenty! I’d never recommend something just because it’s more expensive. But for most weddings, having a second photographer makes a huge difference, not because you’ll get more photos, but because your day moves so fast.
1. Weddings Don’t Slow Down
The biggest thing couples tell me after their wedding is how quickly the day flew by. There are so many moments happening all at once that you don’t even realize until you get your gallery back. While I’m with you getting into your dress, my second photographer can be with your fiancé. While I’m photographing your first kiss, she’s able to capture your parents’ reactions. While we’re taking family photos, she’s photographing your guests laughing during cocktail hour instead of everyone just standing around waiting. It’s all happening at the same time, and that’s something one person just can’t physically do.
2. You Get to See Things You Never Would Have Otherwise
This is probably my favorite part. There are so many moments from every wedding that my couples never actually get to witness. Your grandparents talking before the ceremony, your maid of honor fixing your veil, your flower girl showing off her dress, your guests tearing up during your vows. Those are some of my favorite images because they’re completely real. They’re the moments that happened whether anyone was watching or not.
3. We Work As a Team
One thing that’s really important to me is that I don’t just hire a random second photographer. The person you’ll see alongside me is one of my lifelong best friends, and we’ve been photographing weddings together for years. We know how each other works, we communicate constantly throughout the day, and we both care so much about making sure you have the best experience possible. She isn’t just there to hold an extra camera, She’s there because your story deserves to be documented completely and full of love, detail, and attention.
3. At the End of the Day…
When the wedding is over, the flowers are gone, the cake has been eaten, and your dress is packed away, your photos are what bring you back. I want you to look through your gallery years from now and see not only the moments you remember, but the ones you never even knew happened. Because those little in-between moments are usually the ones that end up meaning the most.
Still wondering if a second photographer makes sense for your wedding? I’d love to help you figure it out! During our consultation, we’ll walk through your timeline, guest count, and priorities together so you can choose the coverage that actually fits your day, not just what everyone else is doing.
Inquire, and let’s create a photography experience that feels like you!<3
